Position Title: Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant

Compensation and Benefits:

·       Salary range is $75,000 - $90,000

·       Benefits include bonus potential, health, dental and vision insurance, 401k with 4% company match, equity shares, sick and vacation leave

Position Summary: The Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for the daily costing and reconciliation of production line runs in food manufacturing operations. This role ensures accurate tracking of raw material, packaging, labor, and overhead costs against planned standards, identifying variances, and supporting cost efficiency initiatives. The position will work closely with production, inventory, HR/payroll, and finance teams to maintain real-time cost visibility and drive data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, cost accounting principles, and food industry standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Track and analyze actual vs. planned usage of raw materials, packaging, labor, and overhead for each production line.

·       Investigate and report on variances, working with operations to understand root causes (e.g., material waste, labor inefficiencies, machine downtime).

·       Monitor direct labor hours & rates by line/shift, comparing actuals to standard costs.

·       Analyze overtime, idle time, and productivity trends, providing insights into operations.

·       Track machine hours, utilities, and indirect labor to ensure proper absorption.

·       Apply predetermined overhead rates (fixed/variable) and adjust for variances.

·       Work with finance to ensure accurate monthly overhead reconciliations.

·       Maintain daily cost reports by line, product, and batch, including material, labor, and overhead components.

·       Reconcile inventory movements (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) with ERP system.

·       Ensure proper cost allocation in compliance with accounting standards.

·       Identify cost-saving opportunities in materials, labor efficiency, and overhead utilization.

·       Support standard cost updates based on actual performance trends.

·       Collaborate with production planners to refine BOMs (Bills of Materials) and routings.

·       Work with production supervisors to validate usage and labor data.

·       Partner with HR/payroll to align labor costs with production output.

·       Assist finance teams in bridging daily costing with monthly and yearly P&L and inventory valuation.

·       Conduct cost audits and participate in internal and external audits.

·       Other accounting, finance, sales projects when necessary

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Qualifications / Education / Experience Desired:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

·       Minimum 5 years’ proven experience as a Cost Accountant, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.

·       Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.

·       Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel (Power Query/PivotTables a plus).

·       Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

·       Ability to interpret large datasets and drive actionable insights.

·       High accuracy in tracking daily production and labor metrics.

Language / Mathematical / Reasoning Ability:

·       Must be able to accurately document information in a timely manner

·       Must be able to write and speak, both clearly and effectively

·       Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

·       Very strong math skills required

Supervision Given:

·       This position will report to the Controller and work closely with the CFO and with other department leaders

·       This position is expected to be able to work with minimal oversight at times, and be able to confidently handle situations on their own

The employee may be required to travel, must drive a motor vehicle, and effectively communicate using telephone and email.

Location: On-site at our headquarters located in Loveland, CO

Travel Required: Limited –May be asked to go off-site occasionally for in-person meetings and other functions.
