Position Title: Plant Accounting Manager

Compensation and Benefits:

·       Salary range is $100,000 - $110,000

·       Benefits include bonus potential, health, dental and vision insurance, 401k with 4% company match, equity shares, sick and vacation leave

Position Summary:

The Plant Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting for the Company’s food production operations. A key focus of the role is to track and reconcile costs of production line runs. The Manager will work with the Operations team to analyze production costs, manage operating expenses, and provide inventory management analysis.  The Manager will work closely with Production, Inventory, HR/Payroll, and Finance teams to maintain real-time cost visibility and drive data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, cost accounting principles and accounting standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Track and analyze actual vs. planned usage of raw materials, packaging, labor, and overhead for each production line.

·       Maintain daily cost reports by line, product, and batch, including material, labor, and overhead components.

·       Develop and report on KPIs (metrics) related to manufacturing operations.

·       Investigate and report on variances, working with operations to understand root causes (e.g., material waste, labor inefficiencies, machine downtime).

·       Identify cost-saving opportunities in materials, labor efficiency, and overhead utilization.

·       Reconcile inventory movements (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) with ERP system.

·       Ensure proper cost allocation in compliance with accounting standards.

·       Support standard cost updates based on actual performance trends.

·       Collaborate with production planners to refine BOMs (Bills of Materials) and routings.

·       Analyze operating expense spending and ensure compliance with budgets.

·       Work with production supervisors to validate usage and labor data.

·       Monitor direct labor hours & rates by line/shift, comparing actuals to standard costs.

·       Partner with HR/payroll to align labor costs with production output.

·       Analyze overtime, idle time, and productivity trends, providing insights into operations.

·       Assist finance teams in bridging daily costing with monthly and yearly P&L and inventory valuation.

·       Oversee physical inventory cost audits and participate in internal and external audits.

·       Other accounting, finance, sales projects as needed and time permits.

Qualifications / Education / Experience Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience in a senior accounting role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High accuracy in tracking daily production and labor metrics.
  • Worked closely with Operations and Productions teams to understand and improve production costs.
  • Must have a positive and collaborative attitude.

Language / Mathematical / Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be able to accurately document information in a timely manner
  • Must be able to write and speak, both clearly and effectively
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Very strong math and analytical skills required

Supervision Given:

  • This position will report to the Controller and work closely with the CFO and with other department leaders
  • This position is expected to be able to work with minimal oversight at times, and be able to confidently handle situations on their own

Specific vision abilities required by this job include looking at a computer screen and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to follow safety rules to be on Production floor. The employee may be required to travel, must drive a motor vehicle, and effectively communicate using telephone and email.

Location: On-site at our headquarters located in Loveland, CO

Travel Required: Limited – Position will primarily be located in our Loveland facility but may be asked to go off-site occasionally for in person meetings and other functions.
