Who nominated you?
Amy’s husband Jeff. “I nominated her because I felt that she deserved it. She has been working so hard and is helping a lot of people, a lot of sick people.”
Where do you work?
I work in a community hospital, it is very small, it is only 72 beds. I pretty much have always worked in the ICU because I really like that part of nursing. At the beginning of the pandemic, we became a COVID-only hospital for three months straight.
What kind of gear were you wearing while working the COVID-19 ICU Unit?
We would gown up, double glove, and we had these helmets we had to wear that had a battery pack that would circulate air for us.
What made you choose your career path?
I got into nursing because I really like people and I wanted to help people.I decided to go for it! and I’ve been doing it for a little over 25 years now.
What inspires you to continue nursing?
Especially lately we have had patients come back that have had COVID and were in our unit for quite some time. To see them walk back in and be able to talk with us and see that they can go on with normal daily life, as much as normal as it can be, that inspires me a lot to keep doing what I am doing.
What does this nomination mean to you?
It felt great. It’s been very difficult this past year, the most difficult time in my nursing career but, it’s definitely getting better. I feel like a celebrity knowing that my face is going to be on the front of the bar, and I have been telling friends at work and I am just so excited!
